Privacy policy

This policy covers the ECU IQ website (ecuiq.com), the ECU IQ iPhone app and ECU IQ hardware. In short: we collect what we need to sell you hardware and run the app, we don't sell your data, and we don't use advertising trackers.
When you buy from us
- Order details: your name, email, phone number, shipping address, what you bought and, if you tell us, which car it's for. We use these to ship your order, send updates and provide support.
- Payment: payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. Stripe's privacy policy applies to the payment itself.
- Order tracking: anyone with your order number and email can see your order status and shipment tracking on the track-order page, so keep both private.
When you contact us or sign up
- Messages: your name, email, message and any car or order details you add, so we can answer you.
- Product news: if you sign up, your email address. Every email has a way to unsubscribe, or just ask us to remove you.
When you use the app
- Account: if you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email address and a user ID through Firebase Authentication (Google).
- Vehicle and drive data: data read from your car (engine readings, fault codes, drive logs, VIN-derived vehicle details) is stored on your phone. If you're signed in, it is also synced to our cloud database (Google Firebase) so it survives a new phone.
- AI Mechanic: when you ask a question, the question and the relevant drive data are sent to our server and processed by an AI provider (Anthropic) to write the answer. They aren't used to train AI models.
- Location: used while the app is open to work out altitude and air density for engine analysis.
- Camera and photos: only when you attach a photo to a maintenance record.
- Diagnostics: crash and performance data to fix bugs.
Who we share data with
Only the services that run ECU IQ for us: Stripe (payments), Cloudflare (website hosting and security), Google Firebase (app accounts and sync), Anthropic (AI Mechanic answers), our email provider, and shipping carriers (your name and address, to deliver your order). We don't sell personal data and we don't share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
Order records are kept as long as tax and accounting rules require. Messages are kept while we're helping you and for a reasonable time after. App data is kept until you delete it or your account.
Your choices
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it (except what we must keep for legal reasons). Email info@ecuiq.com. You can also delete app data and your account from the app's settings.
Security
Everything is sent over encrypted connections. Access to order data is limited to the store owner's signed-in admin account.
Children
ECU IQ isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. Big changes will be announced on the site or in the app.
